Toronto Blue Jays Bio
The Blue Jays are one of the most recognizable names in world baseball and have been a member of the American League East Division since their inception in 1977.
The Jays are named Blue Jays after the bird of the same name and the colour of the other franchises that reside in the city.
Their first few seasons were tough, bedding into life as a franchise, often finishing bottom of the East Division. They started to find their feet though and in 1983 they won more games than they lost before finishing division champions in 1985.
They continued to thrive, winning the division once again in 1989 and 1991, before two landmark seasons in 1992 and 1993.
They were big names in the American League from the mid-80s into the mid-90s, culminating in back-to-back World Series championships, with players such as Roberto Alomar, Joe Carter, Devon White and John Olerud being instrumental in that run of success.
They haven’t taken the World Series or American League since, but won the East Division once again in 2015, taking their total to six and secured a play-off place the following year, winning the Division Series but ultimately failing in the Championship Series.
