The Winnipeg Jets meet the Toronto Maple Leafs at Bell MTS Place on Wednesday night.
The Jets needed to show some great determination in securing a 5-4 OT win on home-ice over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night. The Jets had to come back from 2-0, 3-1 and 4-3 deficits, before Jacob Trouba’s goal almost three minutes into extra-time gave them the lead for the first time in the game and the win.
The Jets key man was Mark Scheifele, who contributed two goals and two assists in the win. In doing so he increased his personal tally for the season to nine points – four goals and five assists. It will be a concern for the Jets that Patrik Laine has only contributed five points (three goals and two assists).
The Maple Leafs have suddenly lost form after what was an excellent start to the season in which they were scoring goals almost at will. They have now lost consecutive games to the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues on home-ice at the Scotiabank Arena and scored just a solitary goal in doing so. Their defeat against the Blues came just a couple of days before the Jets just beat the same opponents.
The Maple Leafs still have the season’s leading goalscorer in 10 goal Auston Matthews, who has also contributed an additional six assists.
This is not an easy game for making predictions, but the Jets are slight favourites according to the Money Line odds. Given the current form of the two teams, the Jets are the tips to win this game.
