Winnipeg Jets (2-1-0) and Carolina Hurricanes (3-0-1) meet at Bell MTS Place on Sunday night.
As elsewhere, both of these hockey teams are also in action prior to this game, with the Jets on the road at the Nashville Predators on Thursday evening and the Hurricanes traveling to Minnesota Wild on Saturday evening.
The Jets go into their trip to Nashville on the back of a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night where, after falling behind early on, Mark Scheifele drew them level in the first period before Kyle Connor scored a power play goal in the second. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck allowed the lone goal on 17 shots.
There were few hockey predictions suggesting any meaningful success for the Hurricanes this season, despite having a new coach and a new owner. However, they went into Saturday’s trip to Minnesota on the back of three consecutive wins, with a 5-3 victory on home-ice against the Vancouver Canucks last time out.
Prior to that they also beat the New York Rangers 8-5 at the PNC Arena, despite only taking the lead in the game for the first time in the final period when they scored four goals without reply to recover from a 5-4 deficit. It does suggest a good team spirit in the ranks.
That might not count for much against a Jets team that can count on the attacking talent of the likes of Patrik Laine, Blake Wheeler, Scheifele and Connor though. With the Hurricanes also facing a quick turnaround following Saturday’s game at the Xcel Energy Center, the odds here will certainly favour a win for the Jets and they are unquestionably our tips.
