The 30 year-old Chinese champion Zhang hasn’t lost a fight for over six years. She finished her last fight in August last year in just 42 seconds against champion Jessica Andrade to claim the title on home soil.
Jedrzejczyk, the 32 year-old Polish challenger, convincingly beat Michelle Waterson on a unanimous decision in her last fight in October 2019, but was beaten three times in four bouts prior to that (twice by Rose Namajunas and then, in a fight for the vacant flyweight title, by Valentina Shevchenko).
The first of those fights against Namajunas saw Jedrzejczyk relinquish the strawweight title that she herself had successfully defended on five occasions over two years.
Zhang is a powerful athlete with great technique and her punches, kicks and clinches. She’s likely to dominate the proceedings early on and could easily win the fight in the first couple of rounds if Jedrzejczyk isn’t at the top of her game.
The question mark against Zhang is whether she has the cardio should the fight go the distance, as she has never gone past 15 minutes. There has to be a possibility that she runs out of steam and Jedrzejczyk uses her combinations to take control.
