Vasyl Lomachenko (12-1) fights Anthony Crolla (34-6-3), with the Ukrainian defending his WBA Super World Lightweight title at Staples Corner in Los Angeles, California on Friday 12th April 2019.
Lomachenko comes into the fight having won each of his last 11 fights and having registered nine KOs in his career to date. He’s coming off a win over Puerto Rico’s Jose Pedraza in December 2019, which was his first decision win since his 2014 bout against Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.
Lomachenko was comfortably ahead of Pedraza throughout the fight, but was unable to produce a knockout, so ending his run of eight KOs in a row.
The 31-year-old boasts two Olympic gold medals and in just 13 professional fights, he has picked up world titles in three different weight divisions. His only loss was in his second professional outing, when he fought for a world title against Mexico’s Orlando Salido in 2014.
The Ukrainian is considered to be one of the best technical fighters in boxing, with excellent footwork, great defense and quick hands that enable him to put together powerful combinations.
Manchester’s Anthony Crolla isn’t the most powerful puncher, but he’s accurate, works well behind his jab well and has a great work rate. He’s always coming forward and trying to go inside, but he’s only produced four finishes in his last 13 fights and hasn’t recorded a KO since his 2016 bout against Ismael Barroso. Of his six losses to date, only one was a finish.
