Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (17-3-0) fights Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche (13-6-0) for the Flyweight Championship at UFC Fight Night 156 on Saturday August 10, 2019 at Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The 31 year-old Valentina Shevchenko from Kyrgyzstan will be defending her title for the second time. She comes into this fight on the back of a head kick knockout win over Jessica Eye at UFC 238 a couple of months ago. It was the first time she had defended her belt since beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk on a unanimous decision at UFC 231 in December 2018 to win the vacant title.
Liz Carmouche had been scheduled to take on Roxanne Modafferi at UFC San Antonio in July, but the bout was cancelled. The 35 year-old American is coming into this bout on a two-fight winning streak with unanimous decision wins over Lucie Pudilova (in February) and Jennifer Maia (in July 2018).
Carmouche will always have a place in the history books, as half of the very first female fight in UFC history with Ronda Rousey at UFC 157 in 2013.
Going back even further, Carmouche also has a bit of history with Shevchenko, having controversially handed the “Bullet” her first professional loss way back in 2010 by TKO (cuts stoppage) in the C3 Fights promotion in Oklahoma. Since then only Brazil’s Amanda Nunes has ever beaten Shevchenko (twice).
