The USA meet Russia in the Group B of the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship at the Ostravar Arena on Sunday evening (local time).
The USA had a 6-3 win over Germany on Friday, having lost their opening game 6-4 to their arch-rivals Canada.
The win over Germany wasn’t terribly convincing either, with Germany opening the scoring and leading 3-2 before the USA took control of the game against the rank outsiders in Group B.
The USA goals were scored by Jordan Harris, Zac Jones, Shane Pinto, Curtis Hall, Bobby Brink and Oliver Wahlstrom. There were also four assists for Trevor Zegras, while Pinto had a couple of assists in addition to his goal. Dustin Wolf made 17 saves.
Russia had looked to be out of contention for topping Group B after they opened the tournament with a 4-3 loss to host nation, the Czech Republic.
However, they returned in style on Saturday night as they dominated the pre-tournament favourites Canada 6-0.
Russia’s goals came from Alexander Khovanov, Pavel Dorofeyev, Nikita Rtishev, Nikita Alexandrov, Yegor Sokolov and Grigori Denisenko, while Amir Miftakhov made 28 saves.
