The third major golf tournament of the season, the US Open, starts at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California on Thursday.

Brooks Koepka (+900 at 888sport) is the two-time US Open defending champion and of course, he also won the US PGA Championship just a few weeks ago. He’ll actually be attempting to win his fifth major in nine this week!

Dustin Johnson ticks the boxes for US Open victory

Having led the by seven strokes with a round to go at the US PGA Championship, Koepka eventually needed a late stumble by Dustin Johnson (+700 at 888sport) to assure his victory.

Johnson won the US Open in 2016 at Oakmont (his only major title to date) and he should have won at Pebble Beach in 2010 when he led by four strokes with a round to go. In addition to his victory in 2016, ‘DJ’ has also had a tied-second, a third and a tied-fourth in the US open in the last five years.

His record at Pebble Beach is excellent, having finished inside the top-10 on 10 occasions in 13 starts, winning twice. As ever, the big question with Johnson isn’t over his ability, but his nerve.

Other US Open Golf Contenders & Betting Pick

Rory McIlroy (+1000 at Sportingbet) won the US Open in 2011 with a score of -16 and was brilliant in winning last week’s RBC Canadian Open. However he has missed the cut in his last three attempts at the US Open. He also has a poor record at Pebble Beach and the firm and fast conditions could spell trouble for McIlroy.

Tiger Woods (+1400 at Sportingbet) played sublime golf in winning the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2000 by a remarkable 15 strokes (the biggest winning margin in any major), but in three AT&Ts here since that victory, he hasn’t made the top-ten.

Jordan Spieth (+2200 at bet365) and Xander Schauffele (+2800 at bet365) could be worth each-way US Open golf.

US Open Pick: US Open Winner – Dustin Johnson to win at +700 (888sport)
