UFC Fight Night 140 in Buenos Aires is the first ever event to take place in Argentina, South America.
South American, Brazil in particular, has a rich history within mixed martial arts, so it will mean the world to MMA fans in Argentina that the UFC is now staging a big Fight Night event there. The co-main event is a really interesting matchup in the 145lb featherweight division, between two veteran sluggers in Ricardo Lamas and the 30-24-6 Darren Elkins.
These two have all the experience in the world and it promises to be a very exciting fight. The Lamas Vs Elkins betting lines has Lamas as the -250 favourite at 888sport with Elkins who has a bit to prove after a loss in his last fight, the +200 underdog.
Ricardo Lamas has lost four of his last seven fights, which is evidently a worry, but in matching him up against a vulnerable Darren Elkins, Lamas has a big chance to get back a “W” for the win column. His three wins of those seven fights were against Diego Sanchez, Charles Oliveira and the brilliant-to-watch Jason Knight, so Lamas is still very capable of mixing it with the best. His last two losses were an unfortunate KO and a split decision loss last time out, before that he lost to the current 145lb Champion Max Holloway and major contender Chad Mendes. However you cut it, Lamas has a richer history of fights in this division and it’s easy to see why he is the favourite.
Lamas has won 18 of his 25 fights and is as tough as they come. He has fought in South America twice (Mexico both times, Vs Bermudez and Oliveira) and won twice, so he clearly thrives on a trip down there. Our UFC Fight Night 140 co-main event prediction is Ricardo Lamas to beat Darren Elkins, most likely with a battling decision success.
