Jose “Junior” Aldo (28-4) fights Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski (19-1) in a Featherweight bout at UFC 237 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. (May 11th)
Jose Aldo has the pedigree as one of the greatest featherweight fighters in MMA history, having held the UFC title since winning it in November 2009 until he lost it to Conor McGregor in December 2015.
The 32 year-old Aldo is said to have retirement plans at the end of this year. However, he has picked up two hugely impressive back-to-back wins against Jeremy Stephens (by TKO) and Renato Moicano (also by TKO) since going down to consecutive losses against reigning 145-pound champion Max Holloway and there is speculation that he could postpone retirement plans if another title shot becomes available.
The Australian fighter Volkanovski, who has gone 19-1 since turning his back on professional rugby for a career in MMA. The 30-year-old Australian is 6-0 since joining the UFC, but this fight against Jose Aldo is undoubtedly a step up in class.
