Jared Cannonier (11-4) takes on Anderson “Spider” Silva (34-9) in a Middleweight bout in the co-main event at UFC 237 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. (May 11th)
Cannonier is coming off a November win over David Branch in which he earned the ‘Performance Of The Night’ award for the victory. After back-to-back losses, Cannonier returned with an impressive knockout of Branch in which he landed a clean left hand and finished the bout with ground and pound.
He’s now looking to win consecutive fights for the first time since 2016.
Anderson Silva will be fighting before the fans who adore him as an all-time MMA legend in his homeland but the reality is that, at the age of 44, he is way past his prime.
A sign of Silva’s declining fortunes is that he has been defeated in five of his last six fights and is coming off a February loss to Israel Adesanya. In fairness to Silva, he did hold his own against Adesanya during the fight and showed that he can still be a force to be reckoned with.
