NHL action sees the Toronto Maple Leafs (8-5-3) play host to the Vegas Golden Knights (9-5-2) at the Scotiabank Arena on Thursday evening.
It’s been an indifferent start to the season for the Maple Leafs, but consecutive wins on the road at the Philadelphia Flyers (4-3) and 3-1 on home-ice against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night are more encouraging.
Goals from Alexander Kerfoot, Auston Matthews and William Nylander gave Toronto the win over the Kings, with 24 saves from Frederik Andersen. The game was also notable in that captain John Tavares was back in action for the Maple Leafs after missing seven games with a broken finger.
Matthews has 12 goals and 18 points for the Maple Leafs, while Mitch Marner has 13 assists.
The Golden Knights put two straight overtime losses on home-ice behind them with a 2-1 win on the road at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, with Reilly Smith scoring both their goals. Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury finished with 29 saves.
Smith now has nine goals for the Golden Knights, Mark Stone has 18 points and William Karlsson has 12 assists.
