The Scotiabank Arena is the venue for the Toronto Maple Leafs (7-1-0) against the St. Louis Blues (1-3-2) on Saturday evening.
The Maple Leafs were the top picks in many preseason predictions to challenge for honours this season and they have certainly made a promising start, with six wins from their opening seven games prior to the visit of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday evening.
The Maple Leafs currently stand clear at the top of the NHL standings for Goals per Game, with them averaging a highly impressive 4.71. Defensively they are less distinguished, allowing 3.29 Goals per Game (the 12th highest).
In addition, the Maple Leafs also have the current leading scorer in the NHL in 10-goal Auston Matthews, who also happens to be the leading points’ scorer with 16. In Morgan Rielly, the Maple Leafs also have the player with the most assists, with 10 to his name already.
While the Maple Leafs have prospered, it’s been far tougher for the Blues, with four losses in their opening five games. On the Wednesday prior to this game, they had another Canadian road trip against the Montreal Canadiens where they went down to a 3-2 loss.
Prior to that, the Blues were scoring at an average of 3.00 Goals per Game (17th in the NHL overall), but defensively they are allowing a worryingly high 4.00 Goals per Game (the 4th highest).
It would be a shock were this game to result in anything other than a win for the Maple Leafs, and the odds will unquestionably strongly favour that outcome. It’s difficult to make much of a case for the Blues, so the Maple Leafs are the tips to win this with something to spare.
