The Toronto Maple Leafs (5-1-0) are in action at the Scotiabank Arena on Monday evening, when the Los Angeles Kings (2-1-2) are the visitors.
The Maple Leafs put down a serious marker when handing out a 4-2 beating away to the Washington Capitals on Saturday, in a game in which they twice retrieved a one-goal deficit against the current Stanley Cup holders.
It was also a game in which Auston Matthews lit the lamp for his 10th goal of the season already, while the Maple Leafs took their team tally to 29 goals in just six games. There are concerns in the defensive areas though, where their 22 goals conceded is only surpassed by the Detroit Red Wings.
For the Kings, this game marks the end of their Canadian road trip, that has seen them lose 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets, beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 and then suffer a 5-1 beating at the hands of the Ottawa Senators. Defensively they had been very strong this season prior to the Senators defeat and they will need to rediscover that previous solidity if they are to have a chance against the free-scoring Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs were many pundits early predictions to have a strong showing this season and they are already beginning to look like genuine Stanley Cup contenders. The NHL odds will be heavily stacked in their favour against the Kings, but they have to be the tips to win this game.
The alternative ‘Puck Line’ betting market might provide more attractive odds for those expecting a convincing winning margin here.
