The Minnesota Timberwolves (19-21) will play under interim head coach Ryan Saunders Tuesday night after the surprising dismissal of Tom Thibodeau following Sunday’s 22-point win over the Lakers. But Saunders was an assistant under Thibodeau, so there will likely not be any drastic changes.
Against a team with the offensive potential of the Thunder, he will likely try to keep the team playing good defense. So far in 2019, they have had one of the best defenses in the league (third best in efficiency).
But they are going to have to bring their offensive game up as well. The Thunder have also been one of the better defensive teams in 2019 and, for the season, have the best defensive efficiency rating in the league.
However, they are coming off a game that was probably their worst of the season, a 116-98 loss to the Washington Wizards. But was the poor outing an isolated incident or the start of a slump?
Spread: Thunder by 8
The Thunder are coming off their worst game of the season and will want to bounce back. But the Timberwolves are playing good basketball right now and will not be as affected by the loss of their head coach as you might think.
Oklahoma City will not cover the spread.
Both teams have good offenses capable of scoring a lot of points. But they are also two of the better defensive teams in the league. Take the under.
Money line: Timberwolves +275.00; Thunder -370.37
Minnesota is a talented group, and while they did beat the Thunder last time these two played Oklahoma City is the better team. Take the Thunder to win.
