The Texans have been a team to watch for ears because of their defence. Last year, it was the emergence of Deshaun Watson. The defence is starting to look more like the dominant unit fans know and love. While the offence hasn’t been as exciting as it was last year, they are winning games.
But that could all change this Sunday if their newest addition, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, is as good as they hope.
He has only been with the team after getting traded from the Broncos for a week. But he is expected to make his debut with the team this week. While it would be unreasonable to expect him and Watson to have much chemistry, if he can force the Denver defence to spread the field, Deandre Hopkins can work the underneath routes all day long.
It should also make it easier for running lanes to open up for Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue.
However, while the Houston offence could have an exciting new dimension this week, the Denver defence is still one of the best in the league. With all the hits Watson has taken and injuries he has played through, he is one hard Von Miller or Bradley Chubb sack away from a severe injury.
If Watson were to go down, it would be disastrous for the Texans.
So—who’s going to win?
Case Keenum is capable, but he hasn’t been great for the Broncos this season. Without a running game to help take some pressure off him, the Denver offence is going to struggle.
Take Houston (+130) to win over Denver (-150) and beat the spread (Broncos by 1). As for the over/under—take the under.
