Winnipeg Jets are many pundits’ tips to win the Stanley Cup this season, so they will be under the microscope when they start their new season with a tough looking trip to the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center on Thursday evening.
St. Louis are also Central Division rivals and they only missed the playoffs by a solitary point last season. Like the Jets, they’ve trusted in youth to a large degree.
Last season the Winnipeg Jets had the second-best record in NHL standings with 114 points but missed out on the Stanley Cup Final when going down 4-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final. The standards have now been set though.
The loss of Paul Stastny to the aforementioned Knights is a big blow, but such is the wealth of attacking talent at the Jets disposal, most NHL predictions remain largely positive for the season ahead.
With the Jets able to call upon the vastly experienced Blake Wheeler and a quartet of top-quality young players in Patrik Laine, Mark Schiefele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor, their attack should be among the very best in the NHL.
There’s little to choose between the teams on the Money Line odds in this game, but the Jets can justify their position as marginal favourites as the pick here.
