Halep has been in outstanding form throughout the tournament to date, coming through five rounds without having dropped a single set and having only been taken to one tie-break.
In her quarter-final, the 28 year-old Romanian made short work of the Estonian Anett Kontaveit, winning 6-1 6-1.
The two-time Grand Slam champion was a finalist at the Australian Open in 2018 and on current form will take some stopping to secure her place in Saturday’s Australian Open final.
That task falls to the unseeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, who has rediscovered her best form at this tournament. Like Halep, 26 year-old Muguruza is a two-time Grand Slam champion herself, so there’s no doubting her quality or ability to cope under the spotlight.
In her quarter-final, Muguruza beat Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5 6-3. That was the third seed that she has accounted for at this year’s event, having also beaten the 5th seed, Elina Svitolina, 6-1 6-2 in the third round and 9th seed, Kiki Bertens, 6-3 6-3 in the fourth round.
Head To Head
Halep and Muguruza have faced each other on five previous occasions, with the Spaniard 3-2 ahead on the head-to-head. On hard court surfaces, Muguruza leads 3-0.
