Seattle Sounders meet Toronto FC in the MLS Cup showdown at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon.
There’s recent history between these two clubs, with them having met in two of the last three title deciding games. Both teams come into the final seeking a second MLS title.
In 2016 the game finished 0-0 after 90-minutes regulation time and an additional 30-minute period of extra-time, with Seattle eventually prevailing 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
A year later Toronto had the upper hand, as they became the first Canadian team to win the MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield (for the team with the best regular season record) by beating the defending champions 2-0 in the final with goals from Jozy Altidore and Victor Vazquez.
Toronto reached this year’s final after overcoming the current champions, Atlanta United, 2-1 on the road in the Eastern Conference final. The Sounders also won on the road in the Western Conference final, beating this season’s Supporters’ Shield winner, LAFC, 3-1.
