It is too soon to tell for sure, but after winning their third game in a row, the Houston Rockets (14-14) appear to be trending in the right direction defensively. Overall, there defensive rating is still one of the worse in the NBA. But during their recent winning streak, they have graded out well for each respective night.
On the offensive end, they are rolling right along with James Harden who is coming off his second triple-double in a row. But if he doesn’t score, who will do so for the Rockets? Chris Paul has only scored 20+ once this month. Clint Capela has just done so twice.
That is a question Houston will need to answer since the Jazz defence will likely focus on stopping him. Last time out they held him to just 15 points and caused him to commit seven of Houston’s 23 turnovers in that game.
But if Houston’s defence has really improved, they may be able to hold the Jazz to 31.5 percent from the floor like the Orlando Magic in Utah’s last game.
Spread: Rockets by 5
Houston is a better team than they were during the earlier two games against the Jazz. They will still struggle with the Jazz defence enough for Utah to cover the spread.
Both teams are capable of scoring some points, but defence is going to decide this game. Take the under.
Money line: Rockets -200.00; Jazz +170.00
Houston, and especially James Harden, are on a roll right now. Look for them to continue to do so against a slumping Jazz team.
