Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker (20-4-0) takes on Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya (17-0-0) in a UFC Middleweight title fight at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday night.
Both fighters come into this bout on the back of hard-fought victories in their last fights.
The 28 year-old Australian Robert Whittaker last fought in June 2018 when he beat the Cuban Yoel Romero on a Split Decision.
Whittaker was due to fight the American Kelvin Gastelum in February this year, but was taken ill just hours before the fight and had to undergo emergency dual surgery for an abdominal hernia and a twisted/collapsed bowel.
The 30 year-old New Zealand based Nigerian Israel Adesanya was last in action in April, when he beat Gastelum by Unanimous Decision to maintain his 100% record. Interim champion Adesanya is certainly an active fighter, with this being his seventh fight since February 2018.
Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya Betting Lines & Predictions
This is not an easy fight in terms of UFC betting predictions, with little to choose between the two. Adesanya has a significant reach advantage over Whittaker, but that was also true of his last fight and Gastelum was able to close the distance successfully before tiring later in the fight.
The problem for “The Last Stylebender” is that Whittaker is a step-up in class who, in addition to being an excellent wrestler with immense and varied striking power, also has the cardio to go the full distance if necessary.
There’s nothing between the two in the UFC betting lines either, with the line on Whittaker at -110 (1.91) with Betway Sports and Adesanya also at odds of -110 (1.91) with bet365. Despite his injury issues, Whittaker is an underrated champion with an extensive skill set and is the tip to win this fight.
