Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (24-0-0) fights Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (15-0-0) in a unification super-lightweight title clash at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night (local time). The contest also doubles as the World Boxing Super Series final.
Both these highly-rated southpaws have 100% records coming into this eagerly anticipated bout, with the 30 year-old American Regis Prograis being the current WBA world super-lightweight champion. He stopped the Belarusian Kiryl “Mad Bee” Relikh with a 6th round TKO to win the WBA title in April this year.
Prograis also has some other notable scalps in the likes of Abel Ramos (retired in round 8), Joel Diaz Jr. (2nd round TKO), former unified title-holder Julius Indongo (2nd round TKO) and Terry Flanagan (Unanimous Decision).
The 28 year-old Scotsman Josh Taylor will be putting his world IBF super-lightweight belt on the line. Taylor had an outstanding amateur career, winning silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, before going on to claim the gold in 2014. He also represented his country at the 2011 and 2013 World Championships and competed at the 2012 Olympics.
As a professional he’s seen off the previously unbeaten Ohara Davies (TKO in round 7), former lightweight title-holder Miguel Vazquez (9th round KO) and former junior welterweight champion Viktor Postol (Unanimous Decision). Taylor beat Ryan Martin (7th round TKO) and, in May this year, Ivan Baranchyk (Unanimous Decision) to win the IBF title.
