Hamilton is one of the better all-around teams in the CFL. They are among the league leaders in many offensive and defensive categories. But there is one team they just haven’t been able to figure out this season—the Ottawa Redblacks.
Back in Week Seven, they held the Redblacks offence out of the end zone but couldn’t get into the end zone themselves enough and lost 21-15. Ottawa never scored a touchdown but did kick seven field goals.
Last week, Ticats pivot Jeremiah Masoli threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns. He had the team out to a 16-point lead in the second and held a 25-14 advantage at the half. But then the offence went quietly in the second half. Ottawa pivot Trevor Harris threw for over 200 yards in the second half alone to complete the comeback, 35-31.
So, what can the Ticats do differently? They have the top passing game in the league already (but Ottawa’s is a close second). Their pass defence is pretty good (first in yards allowed; third in touchdowns allowed).
A better question may be whether Hamilton can keep up the passing onslaught despite losing Brandon Banks for the season last week.
So—who’s going to win?
Harris is playing his best football of the season in recent weeks. Over the last five games, he has averaged well over 300 yards a game and has thrown eight touchdowns to just two interceptions. When a pivot is throwing that well and not making any mistakes, he is hard for any defence to beat.
Ottawa will lock down the division with another win over the Ticats this week. Take Ottawa (+133) to win over Hamilton (-147). Hamilton may be favoured by three but don’t be shocked if they lose by seven.
As for the over/under—take the over (54.5).
