Spread: Roughriders by 4
Money line: Redblacks +160; Roughriders -185
On one side of the field, there is the division-leading Ottawa Redblacks. On the other side is a team in second place in its division, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Both teams must be good to be in the positions they are in—right?
Yeah, but they aren’t very good at the moment.
Ottawa has been struggling to score points all season. Occasionally, they explode and have a big day. But they are more likely to struggle against the worst defence in the CFL, Montreal, than they are to take advantage of it.
But that may not be as much of an issue this week. After seeing Zach Collaros go down with an injury last week, the Roughriders will likely turn to Brandon Bridge to play pivot. Three of the four games they’ve lost came with him at the reigns of the offence. He’s managed to guide the team to 20 or more points just once in six starts.
The winner this week will come down to who’s pivot makes the fewest mistakes or whose defence forces the other’s pivot into making more mistakes. Saskatchewan has allowed the fewest sacks this season, is second in the league in turnover ratio, and is second in the league in sacks made. Chances are, they’ll force Ottawa into more mistakes then the Redblacks will force on them.
Take Saskatchewan to win over Ottawa and cover the spread. It will be shocking if these two teams combine to score 30 points this week; take the under.
