Ottawa secured a home playoff game last weekend but would like to take a step closer to securing the East Division crown this week. Edmonton, on the other hand, has watched the playoffs slip further and further away after losing their third in a row last week. Heading into this week’s game against Ottawa, they are tied for last in the West with the BC Lions (both teams have 14 points).
The stakes may be a little higher for the Eskimos, but that doesn’t mean the Redblacks are going to make this one easy. Ottawa pivot Trevor Harris has been on a tear in recent weeks with three 300+ yard games in a row (six touchdowns to one interception).
He has had those games against teams who have better pass defences than Edmonton does. Theoretically, he should be able to do just as much damage this week, if not more.
But if he does, it would not be shocking to see him get in a shootout with Edmonton pivot Mike Reilly. The Eskimos lead the league in passing yards (4605) and are second in passing touchdowns (27). If he gets hot, the Redblacks could be in danger.
So—who’s going to win?
Reilly has had an impressive season, but it appears as if teams have figured him out in recent weeks (one touchdown to six interceptions). Ottawa has a good enough defence to keep him from blowing upon them.
Take the Redblacks to win (+145) over the Eskimos (-165). If they don’t win, the Eskimos will not cover the spread (3.5 points). As for the over/under—go with the over (51).
