Spread: Raptors by 4.5
Money line: Raptors -196.08; Grizzlies +165.00
Last season, this game would have been an easy one to call. The Raptors were one of the best teams in the league, and the Grizzlies were one of the worse. More than likely, it would be an easy win for Toronto.
But this year, it is a little different. Toronto (17-4) is still one of the best teams in the NBA, but the Grizzlies are not half-bad either (12-7). Toronto has been getting it done with a high-powered offence and just enough defence, like most teams. Memphis, on the other hand, is taking a different approach to the season.
They are playing defence.
Memphis has the lowest scoring offence in the NBA so far this season with just 103.0 points a game. But they are also allowing the fewest per game in the NBA at 100.9.
Toronto’s defence hasn’t performed as well, but it isn’t too shabby (107.8 points/game allowed). It definitely helps to be one of the top scoring teams in the league as well (116.8 points/game allowed).
Memphis would love to end their two-game losing streak. But Toronto wants to add to its five-game winning streak.
So—who’s going to win?
Memphis is a totally different team than it was last season with Mike Conley back in the lineup. His presence seems to have brought new life to Marc Gasol’s game as well. The Grizzlies are absolutely going to give Toronto a run for its money in this one. But in the end, Toronto is going to win.
Take the Raptors to win over the Grizzlies straight up. But take the Grizzlies to win against the spread. As for the over/under—it will be close but take the under.
