The first men’s semi-final at the Australian Open 2019 between Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas will take place in the Rod Laver Arena in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The hot favourite is Nadal of course, who is hoping for his second Australian Open title after winning it back in 2009. The best odds available for Nadal to win is just -600 over at 888sport but if you fancy the 20-year old Greek player Tsitsipas (who stands at 6ft 4”) to cause an upset you can take odds of +450 with William Hill.
Nadal has breezed his way into the semi-finals without dropping a single set albeit against fairly modest opposition. He saw off Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-1. 7-6 in the Last 16 and Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
The up-and-coming Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked No. 15 in the world and is the youngest ranked player in the Top 20. He knocked out Roger Federer in the Last 16 which is a great scalp for the youngster who first picked up a racquet aged 3. Definitely one to watch for the future.
This mouth-watering clash could be a match to savour with the old master Nadal still looking hungry against an exciting new talent in Tsitsipas. These two have met twice before with Nadal running out the 2-0 winner on both occasions in Barcelona and at the Canadian Masters last year.
In terms of a Nadal v Tsitsipas betting tip we fancy Nadal to win this in straight sets at odds of +105 with 888sport. Nadal wants to become the first player to win each of the Grand Slams twice in the Open era and looks in terrific form. The winner will face either Novak Djokovic or Lucas Pouille in Sunday’s final.
Rafael Nadal v Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction:
