Rafael Nadal meets Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Rogers Cup (aka ATP Montreal) on Sunday afternoon. Nadal had the luxury of reaching the final of the Rogers Cup without playing a shot, after France’s Gael Monfils withdrew from their semi-final with an ankle injury.
Sixth seed Medvedev beat compatriot Karen Khachanov 6-1 7-6 (8-6) in his semi-final. The World No. 9 will have the backing of many in the crowd on Sunday in the French-speaking Canadian city, with Medvedev based in Monaco, sponsored by Lacoste, having a French coach (Gilles Cervara) and speaking French.
The pair have never faced each other previously but, although the 33 year-old Nadal is a decade older than his opponent, the fact that he has had a day off due to his walkover in the semi-final should ensure that he is the fresher player going into the final.
The 23 year-old Russian has yet to drop a set in Montreal, following up his run to the Citi Open final in Washington last week (where he lost to Nick Kyrgios) by dropping just three games against Britain’s Kyle Edmund, beating two-time ATP Tour titleist Cristian Garin of Chile 6-3, 6-3 and comprehensively defeating World No. 4 Dominic Thiem, while dropping only four games.
Rafael Nadal vs Daniil Medvedev Betting Lines & Prediction
It’s no surprise that Rafa Nadal is the warm favourite going into the final, with the ATP Montreal Final betting lines on the Spaniard being best at -238 (1.42) with 888Sport, while Daniil Medvedev is +200 (3.00) with bet365.
Medvedev is in excellent form, but the Rogers Cup Final 2019 predictions for this match have to take into account Nadal’s status as an all-time great, his vast big-match experience and the fact that he has played one less round than the young Russian.
The best betting value could be in the Set Betting lines, where a Nadal 2-0 win is available at odds of +116 (2.16) at 888Sport. That’s the tip here.
