The Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens meet at the PPG Paints Arena on Saturday evening.
Both teams come into this game after starting the season with clashes against their arch-rivals. At the time of writing we don’t yet know the outcome of the Penguins game at home to the Washington Capitals on Thursday evening, but it was almost certainly a fiercely contested contest between the teams who have won the last three Stanley Cups between them, particularly as it was the Caps who eliminated the Penguins last season
There have been few changes to the Penguins roster going into this season, so they are banking on stability. Captain and star player Sidney Crosby didn’t have his most prolific season last term (29 goals, 89 points), so he might be expected to chip in with a few more goals.
It was a losing start to the new season for the Canadiens on Wednesday evening with a 3-2 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs, although taking the game to OT did at least ensure that they took a point home with them.
There are not too many NHL betting predictions backing the Canadiens for a top-three finish in the ultra-competitive Atlantic Division this season (the Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins all look far stronger), although they will regard a Wild Card spot as being achievable.
The NHL betting lines in this game will unquestionably favour the Penguins and they have to be the tips.
