For the New England Patriots, playing in the AFC Championship should feel like going home. They have been in the game for eight consecutive seasons. But this time it is a little different.
This time they are on the road and underdogs.
The Patriots have certainly been latching on to their new underdog persona. But they should be worried. There is a pretty good reason why the Chiefs are favored.
Their offensive prowess goes without saying. Patrick Mahomes is an incredible talent. He has a bevy of talented pass catchers to throw to, and the running game hasn’t missed a beat since they cut Kareem Hunt.
Mahomes torched the Patriots for 352 yards and four touchdowns back in Week Six when playing on Sunday was still new. Now– Three months later he is going to be even better.
So, Kansas City will score on the Patriots. But can they stop Brady and the Patriots offensive juggernaut?
If they can put endless, suffocating pressure on Brady—then, yes. The Denver Broncos proved the theory a few years back to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. Kansas City tied with the Steelers for most sacks this season.
But the Patriots are the Patriots. No one turns it on like they do in the postseason; just ask the Chargers.
So—who’s going to win?
Both teams are going to put an incredible fight. But the Patriots have lost the last three Conference Championship games they played on the road. This one will make it four.
Take the Chiefs (-151.52) to win over the Patriots (+130.00) but fail to cover the spread (-3). As for the over/under—go with the over (54.5).
