A couple of weeks ago, this game was shaping up to be a potential Super Bowl preview. The Patriots appeared to find their rhythm on both sides of the ball against the Dolphins. Chicago’s defence has been incredible all season. But against the Buccaneers, fans got to see how good the offence can be.
But then last week the Patriots barely held on to beat the Chiefs, and the Bears lost to the Dolphins in overtime. Both offences still played well, overall, but neither defence was consistent.
So—what should fans expect on Sunday when these two meet at Soldier Field?
Now that Brady is starting to see who he can rely on, stopping or even slowing down the Patriots offence is going to be even harder than it usually is. Sony Michell has emerged as a legitimate running threat with James White as an excellent complement. Julian Edelman is back which is going to help open things up for Rob Gronkowski.
The Bears defence can’t afford to have any of the breakdowns that it had against the Dolphins. Against an offence like the Patriots, they will turn into touchdowns really quick.
So—who’s going to win?
Bears fans shouldn’t expect another 300+ yard day out of Mitchell Trubisky, but their young quarterbacks should have a day good enough to win the game. That is if the defence can hold up its end of the bargain.
But it will not. The Patriots offence is looking like it is ready for a statement game this week.
Take the Patriots (-180) to win over the Bears (+160) but look for the Bears to cover the spread (3.5). As for the over/under—take the over.
