Novak Djokovic had a bye in the first round at the Shanghai Masters, but he enters this tournament in excellent form. Last Sunday he beat the Australian qualifier John Millman 6-3 6-2 in the final of the Japan Open.
Djokovic didn’t drop a set in five matches at the tournament as he showed no signs of the injury suffered at the US Open last month.
The Israeli-born 20 year-old Denis Shapovalov reached the last 32 after seeing off the American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets, 6-4 6-2.
The legendary Serbian has played and beaten Shapovalov, currently ranked 36 in the world, twice previously. Both matches were this year.
Novak Djokovic vs Denis Shapovalov Betting Lines & Prediction
Denis Shapovalov managed to take a set off Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open at the start of the year, but was ultimately beaten 6-3 6-4 4-6 6-0. Djokovic then had a more routine 6-1 6-3 win at the ATP Masters 1000 Rome in Italy in June.
Even so, having won 10 of his last 14 matches, Shapovalov is in good form after what has at times been a tough year and he believes that he could upset the betting odds against Djokovic.
Before the Japan Open event Shapovalov might have been worth considering when it comes to betting predictions for this match, but Djokovic has answered doubts about his fitness and form and is difficult to oppose on that basis.
A better tip looks to be in backing Djokovic to win 2-0 in the Set Betting at odds of -222 (1.45) with 888Sport.
