The New York Rangers (27-26-9) play host to the Washington Capitals (36-21-7) at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon in the always heated rivalry between the Metropolitan Division franchises.
The teams met in DC on Sunday, with the Capitals eventually running out 6-5 winners in OT. Prior to this return meeting, the Rangers were on home-ice against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday evening and the Montreal Canadiens on Friday evening.
The Rangers are averaging 2.85 Goals per Game (21st overall), while defensively they are allowing 3.31 Goals per Game (25th overall). Mika Zibanejad is the Rangers’ top player for both goals and assists, with 26 and 36 respectively.
The Capitals followed up Sunday’s win against the Rangers, with a comprehensive 7-2 victory on home-ice against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday evening, despite being 2-0 down in the opening 10 minutes. Before the return game against the Rangers, they had another road trip in New York against the Islanders on Friday night.
The Caps are currently averaging 3.39 Goals per Game, leaving them 6th overall, while they are allowing 3.19 Goals per Game (23rd overall). On an individual basis, Alex Ovechkin has scored 44 goals to date, while John Carlson has provided 47 assists.
The fact that Rangers have home-ice advantage and ran the Caps so close a week ago makes betting predictions for this game quite difficult. However, the Rangers are inconsistent and the Caps have been in decent form of late and with the prolific Ovechkin to rely upon for goals, the Caps look to be the tips to win this game on the Money Line betting odds.
