The New York Islanders (33-17-6) meet the Edmonton Oilers (24-26-5) on Saturday evening at the Barclays Center.
The Islanders were on the road at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday evening, but lost their previous game 3-1 on a road trip to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday evening. The Islanders have been in excellent form of late though, having won 19 of their last 26 games.
Although they are 1st in the Metropolitan Division at present, the Islanders are only averaging 2.82 Goals per Game, which places them down in 24th place in the overall NHL rankings. Defensively is another story, where they are only allowing 2.34 Goals per Game (1st overall). Individually, Anders Lee has 18 goals for the Islanders, while Mathew Barzal has contributed 32 assists.
The Oilers faced road trips to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes on the Wednesday and Friday respectively prior to this game. Previous to that, their last game was a 5-2 loss on home-ice against the San Jose Sharks. That defeat to the Sharks was a seventh loss in eight games for the Oilers and their hopes of securing a place in the NHL playoffs now look effectively dead and buried.
The Oilers have averaged 2.84 Goals per Game, leaving them 23rd overall in the NHL standings. Defensively they have allowed 3.35 Goals per Game (27th overall). On an individual basis, Leon Draisaitl has 32 goals, while Connor McDavid has contributed 50 assists.
The Islanders have to be the tips on the Money Line betting lines when it comes to any predictions for this game, given home-ice advantage and, in particular, the respective form of the two teams.
