The Montreal Canadiens welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the Bell Centre on Thursday evening.
The early season NHL schedule wasn’t too kind to the Canadiens, with their campaign starting with a trip to their arch-rivals and preseason Stanley Cup betting favourites, the Toronto Maple Leafs, where they were unfortunate to succumb to a 3-2 loss in overtime, despite registering 36 shots. However, they did recover to produce an impressive 5-1 win on the road at the Pittsburgh Penguins. That was a result and scoreline that would have upset many tipsters NHL predictions.
The Kings’ season also started with a 3-2 overtime loss before claiming a victory immediately thereafter. They initially lost on home-ice at the Staples Center to the San Jose Sharks, but then went on to defeat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2. The Kings were also in action on Tuesday night away to the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place, where they lost 2-1 after taking an early lead.
The Money Line odds in this game narrowly favour the Canadiens, but selecting a winner is a decidedly difficult call. Despite making an encouraging start to the season, it’s too early to have any great faith in the Habs level of consistency at this stage. Some of the other markets are worth considering when looking for tips in this encounter.
Despite Tuesday’s loss to the Jets, the Kings have been rock solid defensively for a while now, allowing three or less goals in 13 of their last 15 competitive games. In what looks likely to be a closely fought game, Under 5.5 in the Total Goals market has to be the pick at attractive odds.
