The 29 year-old Canadian Raonic, seeded 32nd here, secured an impressive 6-4 6-3 7-5 victory over 2018 finalist Marin Cilic in the fourth round. Raonic hit 55 winners compared to 29 from the Croatian and hit 35 aces compared to Cilic’s five.
The eight-time ATP Tour champion won 79% of his first-serve points and only made 23 unforced errors.
Raonic, former World No. 3, is yet to lose a set this fortnight. This will be his 10th occasion in the last eight of a Grand Slam tournament, half of which have been in Melbourne.
Although not at his imperious best, the seven-time Australian Open champion Djokovic reached his 11th quarter-final at the tournament with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 win over the Argentinean Diego Schwartzman in the fourth round.
It was his 10th successive win of the season, having led Serbia to victory at the inaugural ATP Cup earlier this month.
