The second semi-final game in the Final Four of the 2019 NCAA tournament takes place at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday evening, as the Michigan State Spartans take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The Spartans are the only team left in the field that has previously won a national championship (in 1979 and 2000), and they will fancy their chances of adding to those earlier titles after Point Guard Cassius Winston led the way as they eliminated the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils 68-67 in the East Region final at the Elite Eight stage of the tournament.
Texas Tech Red Raiders will make their first appearances in the NCAA tournament’s final weekend at the 2019 Final Four and (as is the case with the Auburn Tigers) are vying to become the first team to win a national title in its initial Final Four appearance since UConn did it 20 years ago.
The Texas Tech Raiders overcame the Gonzaga Bulldogs 75-69 in the Elite Eight to reach the Final Four for the first time in the 94-year history of the program. As usual this season, the Raiders’ defense was the key, with Texas Tech holding the Bulldogs to 42% shooting, some 10 points below their average.
