The 37 year-old veteran Brazilian Rua is a former light heavyweight champion who last fought the Australian Tyson Pedro in December of last year, winning the bout by KO early in the third round.
The 31 year-old Scottish fighter Paul Craig was only called up as a late replacement at the end of October in place of Sam Alvey, after the American was forced to withdraw after suffering a broken hand.
It’s a quick turnaround for Craig, whose last fight was only on September 21 in Mexico City. That was against another Brazilian, Vinicius “Mamute” Moreira, and ended with a first round win for Craig via submission, which earned the Scot a $50,000 bonus in the process.
Mauricio Rua vs Paul Craig Betting Lines & Tip
In terms of UFC predictions for this fight, it’s worth noting that Paul Craig has never been the distance in his MMA career.
For his part, the main question surrounding Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua is what does he have left in the tank given his age and almost a year away from the octagon?
Beating Rua would be the biggest scalp of Craig’s MMA career to date but, having limited his fights in recent years, Shogun could still have enough quality with the support of the crowd to see off the submission specialist.
