Matteo Berrettini battles it out with Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second match of the Davis Cup Group F tie between Italy and Canada on Monday on the indoor hard courts at La Caja Mágica in Madrid.
This is a match between two of the up and coming stars of the men’s game, with the 23 year-old Italian Berrettini is the current world no. 8 in the ATP rankings, while the 19 year-old Canadian Auger-Aliassime is number 21.
Head To Head
Berrettini and Auger-Aliassime have met just once previously, with the Italian prevailing 6-4 7-6 (13-11) when they met on grass in the final of the Mercedes Cup 2019 (a.k.a. Stuttgart Open) in June this year.
The Italian has been in the better form of the two recently, having featured in the ATP World Tour Finals just last week (where he lost to Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, but beat Dominic Thiem).
Prior to that he also reached the semi-final stage of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, where he lost to Thiem in three sets and in early October he was also a semi-finalist at the Shanghai Masters Event, where he lost in straight sets to Alexander Zverev.
The Shanghai Masters was the last action Auger-Aliassime saw, with him being beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas in two straight tie-breaks in the second round. He was forced to pull out of the Next Gen ATP Finals in late October with an ankle injury.
