LAFC meet Los Angeles Galaxy at the Banc of California Stadium in the MLS Western Conference playoffs semifinal on Thursday night.
LAFC, who only joined the MLS in 2018, set a league record with 72 points in the regular season. They will have had 18 days to prepare for their first MLS playoff game of the season.
By contrast, the Galaxy were in action on Sunday, when they won 2-1 away to Minnesota United in Round 1 of the playoffs thanks to two goals in quick succession from Sebastian Lletget and Jonathan dos Santos. Although that was Galaxy’s second win on the road in three MLS games, they failed to win any of the previous seven.
However, LAFC have never beaten Galaxy in five previous El Trafico meetings, albeit three of those games have ended as draws. Those five games have featured 24 goals, with both teams scoring in every game played.
Much of the attention in this game will focus on the matchup between Carlos Vela for LAFC and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Galaxy. The Mexican forward Vela has scored 34 goals and provided 15 assists in 31 games for LAFC, while the Swedish legend Ibrahimovic has scored 30 goals and registered seven assists in 29 games for LA Galaxy.
LAFC vs Los Angeles Galaxy Betting Lines & Prediction
When looking at MLS betting predictions, LAFC are clearly the form team and have home advantage, but they need to banish any doubts as to their ability to beat the Galaxy.
Those are short betting odds on LAFC in a derby against opposition they’ve never previously beaten, so the tip is in the ‘Match Result & Both Teams to Score’ (BTTS) market, where LAFC to Win & Yes is +125 (2.25) with bet365.
