Joshua “JBuatsi” Buatsi (9-0) fights Liam Conroy (16-3-1) for the vacant British Light-Heavyweight title over a scheduled 12 rounds at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday night.
Both these fighters know that winning this title would boost their reputations and earn them bigger fights going forward, so there’s more than just the belt (up for grabs after Callum Johnson vacated the title) at stake here.
The undefeated and rising prospect Buatsi comes into this bout as the bookies favourite to win the title. Ghanaian-born Buatsi was an Olympic bronze medalist for Great Britain in the 2016 Olympics. He turned professional approximately two years back has already registered nine straight victories.
Batsui fought six times in 2018, winning all except one of them via TKO and he’s won his last three fights in the 1st round.
Despite being a massive underdog here, Conroy has won nine straight fights and every eliminator bout he’s had since September 2015, so he’s unquestionably earned a shot at the title and clearly isn’t without hope here. Conroy stopped Miles Shinkwin to defend his English belt in his last bout in March 2018.
The fact remains that Buatsi is a better overall fighter though and although Conroy could give him some problems, it would be a major surprise were Buatsi not to prevail.
Joshua Buatsi vs Liam Conroy Betting Lines
Predictions ahead of this fight will strongly favour Buatsi, although with his line at best odds of -3300 with William Hill, it’s not the most attractive bet from a tips perspective. Conroy can be backed at +1000 with Betway Sports, while the draw is available at +3300 with Sportingbet.
A better option in terms of value might be to look at the ‘Method of Victory’ betting market and take a chance on Conroy being able to frustrate Buatsi and take it to a decision. Buatsi to win by Decision or Technical Decision is +750 with Sportingbet.
Pick: Method of Victory – Joshua Buatsi to win by Decision or Technical Decision @ +750 (Sportingbet)
