Host nation Japan look to extend their Rugby World Cup 2019 fairytale as they face South Africa at the Ajinomoto Stadium (a.k.a. Tokyo Stadium) in Chōfu, Tokyo on Sunday evening (local time).
Japan topped Pool A after winning all four of their group games, including well-deserved victories over Ireland and Scotland.
South Africa lost their opening game of the tournament against defending champions New Zealand, but they went on to win their remaining three Pool B games with considerable ease against Namibia, Italy and Canada.
The Springboks have been impressive in the tournament to date and they might prove to be a step too far for Japan. They also have an added incentive in that they were on the receiving end of what is widely considered as the “biggest upset” in the history of rugby when they lost 34-32 to Japan at the Rugby World Cup 2015 in Brighton, England. They will be desperate to avenge that humiliating loss here.
Japan vs South Africa Betting Lines & Prediction
In terms of Rugby bet predictions for this game, the Brave Blossoms have already exceeded the expectations of many Rugby World Cup tipsters in topping their group and reaching the last eight. There is an argument that Ireland underestimated them. South Africa are highly unlikely to do that.
The Springboks look the likely winners here, but Japan has the skill and pace in their team to make a game of this. On that basis the tip is to back Japan +15 points on the Handicap / Spreads market at -110 (1.90) with bet365.
