Jan Blachowicz (24-8-0) and Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza (26-7-0, 1NC) meet in a Light Heavyweight bout at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera, São Paulo, Brazil on Saturday night.
The 36 year-old Polish fighter Blachowicz was last in action in July, when he caused a minor upset in beating the American Luke Rockhold with a second round KO.
By way of reference, Rockhold defeated Ronaldo Souza by Unanimous Decision way back in 2011 at Middleweight.
The Brazilian veteran Souza will be 40 in December and lost his last fight by Unanimous Decision to Sweden’s Jack “The Joker” Hermansson in the Middleweight division in April.
As that last fight indicates, Jacaré is moving up a weight division here and that hasn’t always been a successful move when made by other fighters in the twilight of their careers.
Jan Blachowicz vs Ronaldo Souza Betting Lines & Prediction
With regards to UFC Fight Night 164 predictions for this fight, Ronaldo Souza is a competent enough striker and particularly strong in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but he has started to show his age at times in recent fights and with the step-up in weight, it looks to be asking a lot of him to beat the Pole unless he can take the fight to the mat.
Jan Błachowicz is by no means unbeatable and has come up short himself against the elite fighters. However, he is durable and if he can withstand early pressure from Souza, he will be expected to get the upper hand in the later rounds with his jab and kickboxing coming to the fore.
