The 30 year-old Nigerian champion Adesanya claimed the title from Robert Whittaker with a second round knockout at UFC 241 in October last year and he puts his belt on the line for the first time against a very dangerous opponent in the veteran Romero.
The 42 year-old Romero lost his last fight on a unanimous decision to the Brazilian Paulo Costa in August last year and the Cuban also lost two of his previous four fights before that, both on decisions (one unanimous and one split) to the aforementioned Whittaker.
Adesanya likes to keep on his feet during fights and has proven very adept at doing so. Romero is most widely known for his wrestling credentials. He does possess some explosive striking power, but he isn’t a match for the champion in terms of either boxing or kick-boxing.
Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero Betting Odds & Prediction
Israel Adesanya has a 12 year age-gap advantage over Romero, a four-inch height advantage and a near seven inches over the Cuban in terms of reach. Romero is capable of getting the win here, but the Nigerian looks to have most of the advantages going into this fight and he is therefore the tip to retain his title in predictions for this fight.
The value could be in the ‘Method of Victory’ betting market, where Adesanya to win by Decision or Technical Decision can be backed at +225 (3.25) with 888Sport
