Alexander Gustafsson isn’t the only Swede fighting at UFC 232. His compatriot Ilir Latifi, a fellow light heavyweight competitor, is also fighting. Nicknamed the Sledgehammer, Latifi is a specimen of a man. With a background in wrestling and boxing, his speed belies his giant muscular frame.
Not only does Latifi throw grenades, but he also runs right after them too. Stalking opponents on the front foot, Latifi often lands dangerous combinations that go unreplied.
Corey Anderson comes into this fight in good nick. He got over a bad patch of three defeats in four fights to win two on the bounce. That’s the form he finds himself in before his fight with Latifi. The American, who also has a background in wrestling and boxing, is the taller of the two fighters and so has a reach advantage that he’ll be looking to make count in the octagon.
Latifi is a bit like Juggernaut from the X-Men. If you allow him to build up any momentum then he feels unstoppable. Anderson will have to keep a reasonable distance but shouldn’t encourage his opponent to chase him for that will be playing into Latifi’s hands. This will be a fascinating fight and it’s tough to call but at the minute, we’re leaning towards Latifi.
