Germany vs USA Predictions & Betting Odds - IIHF World Juniors Preview

Germany make their first appearance at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship when they face the USA at the Ostravar Arena on Friday afternoon (ET).

Germany Team News

This will be Germany’s opening game at this year’s tournament, but they are the outsiders in Group B having been dealt a horrendous draw alongside heavyweight nations Canada, USA and Russia, plus host nation Czech Republic.

The Germans are back in the main tournament after four straight years in the IIHF U20 World Championship Division I Group A. They finally won promotion last year, with help in playing on home-ice in Fussen.

They beat Austria, Norway, Latvia, Belarus and France and in Dominik Bokk, Justin Schutz and Moritz Seider, they have several key players who remain eligible to appear at the tournament this year in Ostrava.

USA Team News

The USA started their campaign with a 6-4 loss to their northern neighbours and pre-tournament favourites, Canada.

The USA had led 2-0 at the end of the first, but Canada stormed back to lead 4-2, before the USA themselves rallied to make it 4-4.

Ultimately it was the Canadians who prevailed though. Shane Pinto scored twice for the USA, with the other goals coming from Arthur Kaliyev and Nicholas Robertson. Spencer Knight made 26 saves.
