Francis “The Predator” Ngannou (13-3-0) takes on Junior “Cigano” dos Santos (21-5-0) in a Heavyweight bout that’s the main event of UFC on ESPN 3 at the Target Center, Minneapolis on Saturday night, with both fighters looking at earning a title shot with a victory here.
The 32 year-old Ngannou is on a two-fight winning streak coming into this bout, with both fights having lasted a grand total of 71 seconds between them. “The Predator” earned a Performance of the Night at UFC Fight Night 141 in Beijing in November 2018 when he KO’d fight favourite Curtis Blaydes of the USA in just 45 seconds of Round 1.
The Cameroonian surpassed that when he knocked out another American, Cain Velasquez, within just 26 seconds in February to earn Best MMA Knockout of the Year 2019 award in Phoenix, Arizona. Nobody could argue that Ngannou possesses awesome punching power.
There are those who question Ngannou’s conditioning after losing his title fight against Stipe Miocic, with the American having completely exhausted him by dragging him to the mat six times in his Unanimous Decision victory over five rounds. That shouldn’t really be an issue here though, as dos Santos last landed a takedown back in 2014.
Brazilian 35-year-old dos Santos is on a three-fight winning streak, with his last victory coming against Derrick Lewis of the USA with a Round 2 KO in March in Wichita, Kansas.
Although dos Santos is an excellent boxer with terrific footwork and fast hands, he doesn’t possess great one-punch power.
