England and South Africa meet in the final of the Rugby World Cup 2019 on Saturday evening (local time) at the International Stadium Yokohama in Japan.
England overcame the two-time defending champions and tournament favourites New Zealand 19-7 in their semi-final with a magnificent performance. They will be looking for their second World Cup trophy, having famously beaten host nation Australia 20-17 in extra-time to win it in 2003.
South Africa will be looking to draw level with New Zealand by winning a third World Cup, having previously been victorious in 1995 (when they hosted the tournament) and 2007 (when they beat England 15-6 in the final in Paris).
In their semi-final the Springboks just edged out Wales 19-16, with a late penalty from Handre Pollard eventually settling the game.
England have been the more impressive of the two teams in the tournament to date and have, on paper at least, had the more difficult route to the final in the knockout stages, having overcome Australia and the All Blacks, whereas the Springboks beat host nation Japan before the Welsh.
England vs South Africa Betting Lines & Prediction
It’s worth noting that the Springboks started the tournament by losing their opening game 23-13 to the All Blacks, so that’s a potential psychological advantage for England going into the final.
There looks to be a determination about England that makes them the preference in any Rugby World Cup Final predictions. South Africa are not short of quality though, so there’s unlikely to be a great deal separating these teams.
