In the first round, Garin defeated Italian Stefano Travaglia in straight sets – 6-4 6-3 6-4.
It was the first victory of the year for the 23 year-old Chilean, who had lost all of his previous four matches at the start of 2020 in the ATP Cup 2020 (where he was representing his country) and at the Adelaide International.
Milos Raonic also had a comfortable straight sets win to start the tournament on Tuesday, as he dispatched another Italian in Lorenzo Giustino, 6-2 6-1 6-3.
The 29 year-old Canadian had to wait until Tuesday to finish the job against lucky loser Giustino after rain washed out play for the rest of the day on Monday, with Raonic being just one game away from victory.
Giustino, ranked 150th in the world, was making his Grand Slam debut and only played after Radu Albot of Moldova, Raonic’s listed opponent, withdrew because of injury.
Raonic has been a consistent player at the Australian Open, having featured in three quarter-finals and making the semi-finals in 2016 where he lost in five-sets to Andy Murray.
Cristian Garin vs Milos Raonic Betting Lines & Picks
Milos Raonic has stated that he’s currently feeling good, having been sidelined by various injuries for much of the latter months of 2020, which saw him drop down the ATP rankings.
With Raonic looking good in terms of fitness, his record at this event warrants his favoritism in any Australian Open 2020 predictions for this match.
