Cormier Vs Lewis was not an easily predictable event to call this year, but the world of MMA has many twists as we know, so here we are with an unlikely but intriguing main event for UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden.

Cormier took a shot at Stipe Moicic and it paid off in spades, as he won the heavyweight belt to add to his 205lb title, establishing himself as one of the greats. Cormier does struggle to make weight at 205lb, but he has dynamite hands lately and size doesn’t seem to matter to the stocky, diminutive figure.

Derrick Lewis has had his issues. A boring fight with Francis Ngannou went his way in a decision and he had a short turn around after that to face the giant Russian Alex Volkov on October 6th. Volkov was the favourite in the betting lines and everyone expected it to be a quick finish for one or the other. But Lewis had other ideas and despite getting badly hurt, managed to secure a stunning Round 3 victory. He has earned a title shot in unlikely circumstances, but at least now the seemingly cursed NYC card has a credible main event.

Cormier Vs Lewis betting lines have the Champion ‘DC’ as -700 favourite at bet365*, with the current best odds, are -549 with Betway Sports. Lewis is the +400 underdog also with bet365*.

While there is some discrepancy on the UFC 230 main event betting lines, Cormier looks a strong favourite here. Lewis will struggle with every element of Cormier’s game. The AKA gym fighter and a former Olympic wrestler has cardio for days and is better in almost every single department. The very popular fan favourite Lewis has a puncher’s chance, but no more than that in reality.
